Echo Park

Echo Park is a historic and walkable neighborhood and surrounded by four major freeways

Echo Park is a historic and walkable neighborhood just a few minutes away from Downtown Los Angeles. The area is near Elysian Valley on the north, Chinatown and Downtown on the southeast, Westlake on the west, and Silver Lake to the northwest. It is also surrounded by four major freeways, which make the neighborhood incredibly accessible.

Interestingly, one legend says that Echo Park got its name after the builders of the reservoir noted that their voices echoed off the surrounding canyon walls. Atop these ragged hills, many houses are able to take advantage of breathtaking views of the surrounding area, especially the Hollywood Hills and the Los Angeles cityscape. Within the neighborhood lie communities such as Angelino Heights, Elysian Heights, Victor Heights and Historic Filipino town. Angelino Heights, in particular, is host to many historic Victorian homes, Craftsman bungalows, and Streamline Modern residences.

These houses complement the crests of the hillsides, and open up to public stairways that allow the residents to move along the hills, and behold the spectacular vistas. Some of these public stairways such as the Baxter Steps have become famous landmarks for the stunning views that they provide.

Aside from picturesque hillside neighborhoods, Echo Park is also known for its music scene. It is host to many music venues as well as two major music festivals.
